Chick-fil-A: Great Option for Kids

FAST. FOOD. It’s our fallback when we’re craving those juicy trans fats and abnormal amounts of sugar. When we don’t feel like cooking. When we need a convenient meal. Honestly, when we just need to think outside the bun and have it our way. Even in Austin (with its hippie vegetarian gluten-free vibes) the citizens succumb to the fast food way of life.  But there’s hope! Why? Because there’s a way to do Fast Food right! I attended a mini social event at Chick-fil-A South Mopac last weekend for Moms who blog (Side note: I’m not a mom, but I blog and was interested). We learned about child obesity and the factors affecting it. I’d like to share the information with you and show you how Chick-fil-A can be a healthy option for your little ones! Read the rest of this entry »

The Most Unconventional Way to Train for an Ultramarathon

ActiveATX prides itself on going against conventional wisdom and proving a point. We feel that humans should have a broad general and inclusive level of fitness. Trying New Skills

ActiveATX is all about going out there, breaking outside of your comfort zone and trying new skills, things and sports. The personal growth that you get through the process of learning a new skill and executing an impressive new feat helps open up doors physically and mentally. I have been able to simple acrobatics from a young age, but after a few bad experiences on trampolines, solid earth and in friend’s backyards, I have had a fear of doing a backflip on the ground. Although I am able to these with ease off rope-swings, boats and cliffs, where the risk can arguably be much greater, I have had a mental block about doing this on the ground. Here is my attempt at challenging my boundaries and doing something I had a lot of built up fear. The feeling after I accomplished this was incredible but the accomplishment should not subordinate the actual process of being able to do a backflip.  Read the rest of this entry »
