Howdy, fellow active Austinites! It’s time for another product review that will help you choose the perfect active eyewear. Over a year and a half ago, I purchased a pair of Oakley Jawbone sunglasses from Ozone Bike Dept. to replace my aged Oakley Radars. I’m heavy into mountain biking, and in Austin with all the cedar branches protruding into the trails it’s a good idea to always wear sports glasses to protect them eyeballs from being kabobed. I once saw that happen, but that’s another story. Trust me though; you don’t want that to happen to you!

Don’t Hike the Grand Canyon in Vibram’s
My boyfriend Kemper and I left Flagstaff, Arizona at 7 a.m. to drive to the Grand Canyon. We were in the first week of our big road trip through the southwestern United States, and we had planned to hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, camp overnight, and then hike back up the next day. We had done little research on the matter and hadn’t even secured camping permits. We assumed it would be an easy hike — so easy in fact that we planned to drive to Las Vegas immediately after exiting the canyon.

Escape the Heat
105˚ 103˚ 102˚ 100˚This is literally the weather forecast for the next few days. Goodness! What shall the Austinites do? I’m guessing you’re like me and want to avoid “hermit life” in which you enjoy the outdoors by pressing your face up to the window. And I’m going to go out on a limb and say that you don’t want to sweat every ounce of H20 in your body due to this filthy heat! My solution? Jump in some refreshingly cold water and stay in the shade. My go-to spot in Austin has to be Hamilton Pool! A mini-oasis with its lush greenness and trickling waterfall, Hamilton Pool is absolutely one of Austin’s gems.

The Perfect Summer Day in Austin
When you find yourself on automatic, repeating the same routine every day, feeling like life is no more than an unbreakable cycle of work and errands, stop! It’s time to craft your perfect day.
Begin by marking off a day on your calendar and claiming it as yours and yours alone. Take your plan to have a perfect day as seriously as a work obligation and say no to any invitations or requests for that day. In our fast-paced, high-achieving culture, we sometimes have to fight to make time for fun.
