What is ActiveATX?

ActiveATX is the online authority on fitness in Austin. It is an online expansion of the Austin physical subculture.  We officially launched ActiveATX July 21st, 2010 and are expecting 5,000 visitors/month a year later! People will use ActiveATX to find out about thousands of unique fitness events that occur around the Austin metro area. ActiveATX will also be a social networking tool—find friends, recommend events you like to others, view others’ picks and allow them to view yours. ActiveATX will also have a “Best Bets of the Week” newsletter that goes out to a list of opt-in subscribers, featuring the highest-rated events of the upcoming week.

Where do ActiveATX events come from?

The events on ActiveATX come from a number of places, contributors and our very own users. We pull events from local fitness websites such as RunTex and Rogue Running. Users can add their own events as well. We also scour the internet looking for unique events. One delightful aspect of ActiveATX is the ability for you, our users, to add events yourself.

How do I add an Event or Place?

It’s as easy.  Just log in to ActiveATX and click on the “Member Dashboard” from the main navigation bar. Once on the Dashboard page, click on the Events bar on the left hand side of the screen and choose “Add New” to add a new event.  Once you fill in the event details — who, what, where, and when– you’re done. Your submission should be approved within a day or two.  To return to the ActiveATX website, just click on the ActiveATX link at the top and just to the right of the Dashboard option bar.

Please keep in mind that you must be a registered on ActiveATX to post events and add locations to our directory, so if you’re not already, click here to register.

Can I show my friends and enemies my recommendations?

Absolutely. As a matter of fact, we encourage it.

Can I view events by type of Event?

Yes! You can search under run, bike, swim to name a few.

Where do the photos come from?

We figured it wasn’t fair to ask you to upload photos to yet another site, and there were already so many great photos on Flikr, that we decided to pull them from there. If you already use Flickr and want to make sure your photos are available to - just tag them ActiveATX (along with the Event or Place) and we’ll find them. Also we just started the ActiveATX Flikr Group, so join up and post your photos if you’d like. If you don’t use Flickr, take a look, as it’s a pretty snazzy photo sharing site.
